Lower School students participate in weekly art classes as part of their activity schedule. Artwork created by the students are commonly displayed all over the campus in mediums such as: chalk, clay, and watercolor. All of our Lower School students have the opportunity to participate various art shows, including in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s art competition.
Students will learn about the elements of music: melody, harmony, rhythm, form, and timbre (distinguishing different sounds) while singing, playing instruments and participating in musical games. By the end of Lower School, students play percussion instruments, sing in rounds and 2-part harmony, are introduced to woodwinds (recorder), and learn the basics of string instruments (ukulele). From practicing steady beat and singing in-tune to reading treble clef notation and composing music, students enjoy a comprehensive and in-depth curriculum. Precision, creativity, and awareness of beauty are vital musical skills that point to the Creator.
Lower School students are held to a high standard of excellence as music reaches a deep part of the soul, awakening hearts and minds to see more of God. The Lower School students perform during Grandparents Day, in the Christmas musical, and in the Spring Musical.
