Digital Literacy

Digital Literacy

At First Baptist Academy, digital literacy goes beyond learning how to use technology. Students develop the skills to find and evaluate information, think critically, create responsibly and navigate an increasingly digital world with wisdom and discernment.

Through age-appropriate experiences in technology, library, research, coding, digital citizenship and media creation, students build skills that support learning across every subject while developing habits for responsible technology use.

Building Skills from the Start

Beginning in prek, students engage with technology and library experiences designed for their stage of development. Through story time, hands-on activities, early research, STEM exploration and introductory technology skills, students begin learning how to ask questions, solve problems and use tools with purpose.

As students progress through lower school, they build skills in keyboarding, coding, research and digital citizenship while continuing to develop a love of reading and exploration. Library experiences also include research projects, makerspace activities, STEM and robotics opportunities.

Digital Citizenship

Technology provides powerful opportunities to learn, connect and create, but students must also learn how to use it wisely. Digital citizenship lessons help students understand responsible technology use while considering how God calls us to guard our hearts and minds, communicate with integrity and make wise choices in digital spaces.

Middle School

Beginning in fifth grade, students use personal devices as an integrated part of their academic experience. Technology supports everything from research and note-taking to collaboration, presentations and multimedia projects.

Rather than using technology simply for technology's sake, students learn to select and use digital tools purposefully as they strengthen critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity and character.

Research, Reading & Exploration

The library remains an important resource for students across grade levels, providing access to books, research materials and spaces for exploration and independent learning.

Prek and lower school students participate in regular library experiences, while middle school students use the space for reading, research and class projects. Schoolwide traditions such as the annual book fair and spring reading challenge encourage students to discover new authors, genres and ideas.
