6th Grade Traditions
Fall
- ABC's of Geography - Students research and create a journal/information package that identifies 26 different geography terms. Students are responsible for utilizing each letter of the alphabet and tie it to a geography term.
- Earth Science Mineral Project - Students make a 3-D poster that shows the six crystal systems of minerals.
- Science Mountain Project - Students make a poster of the four basic types of mountains, including a cross-section of each type of mountain.
- Vincent van Gogh - Art students use melted Crayola to recreate blown-up artist prints.
- Christmas Ornaments - Each sixth grade Art student makes a unique Christmas ornament to take home for their family Christmas tree.
- Christmas Around the World - Students research five different countries' Christmas traditions/customs and how they celebrate Santa Clause. Students then prepare a power point presentation highlighting the information.
Spring
- Backpacking Across Europe - Students research important historical venues in three different countries in Europe and create three separate postcards utilizing a Microsoft desktop publishing application.
- Science Volcano Project - Students will make a poster of the three basic types of volcanoes, including cross-sections and types of eruptions.
- Science Oceanography Project - Students make a poster of a marine organism, plant, or animal.
- Mosaics - Art students create mosaic platters that are displayed in the school.
April
- Wax Museum - Students research a famous historical figure, write a research paper, make a timeline and tri-board presentation. Their historical figure comes to life as they dress and verbally portray their character from the past.
