Middle School Extra Curricular Activities
Student Organizations
Service organizations provide opportunities for leadership in Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, and Yearbook. Student-led service projects are scheduled throughout the school year.
Duke University Talent Identification Program
Each year, FBA has seventh graders who qualify to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). TIP identifies students who are verbally and mathematically gifted. To participate in the program, a student must score 95 percent or above on a qualifying composite or sub-test of a nationally normed achievement, aptitude, or mental ability test battery.
Fine Arts
First Baptist Academy is a member of the Houston Junior Preparatory Conference (HJPC) for the purpose of interscholastic athletic competition and a member of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) for academic and fine arts competition. Our fine arts students in choir, band, and art perform at our Fall and Spring Fine Arts Festivals in addition to other performances and competitions.
Athletics
The athletic program includes cross-country, track and field, volleyball, and basketball for sixth grade. Seventh and eighth grade includes football, volleyball, cross-country, track and field, basketball, baseball, softball, and cheerleading.
The Private School Interscholastic Association
The Private School Interscholastic Association is an academic program designed to enhance student learning. Contest materials are integrated into the classroom curriculum to complement subject matter in addition to enriching skills. Middle school students participate in contests including Ready Writing, Impromptu Speaking, Modern Oratory, Poetry Interpretation, and Visual Arts. Students are selected in a school-wide competition to represent our school at the district meet against other Houston-area private schools and have the opportunity to advance to the state meet.
